This page describes how to install Utterly Voice.
If you have already installed Utterly Voice, and you're upgrading to a new version, see Version Upgrade.
If you haven't already, go to the Download page and download the application installer file.
Once the application installer has finished downloading, double click the installer to open it.
The first time you run the application installer or application itself, Windows SmartScreen may show a warning about running an unrecognized app. The application has been published (Smartscreen should show the publisher), but it may take time for the application to develop reputation with Microsoft. Select the options that let you run the application. For example, click more info then run anyway.
If you encounter any other issues, see Installation Issues.
The application installer recommends a directory for installation. If you use the recommended directory, you can skip to the next section.
If you want to change the installation directory,
you can install the application in any location
where you have file write permissions.
The directory name should be utterlyvoice
,
and the installer will copy speech model files
and potentially multiple versions of Utterly Voice in this directory.
Here are a few suggestions:
C:\Users\<YOUR_USER_NAME>\AppData\Local\Programs\utterlyvoice\
.
This directory does not require administrator privileges,
and it is a common choice for portable applications.
Each user of the computer can have their own settings.
C:\utterlyvoice\
.
utterlyvoice
directory on a USB drive.
All configurations can be saved in this USB drive directory
and you can execute the application from there.
Note that the C:\Program Files\
directory used by many applications
does not provide file write permissions unless you are running as the administrator
or you change the default file permissions for this directory.
Follow the remaining instructions on the installer. You can select various components for installation, but most users should use the recommended components. By default, a desktop shortcut will be created, but you can disable this component if you wish.
If you chose to install the desktop shortcut, you can double click the shortcut on your desktop. If you encounter any issues, see Installation Issues.
If you chose not to install the desktop shortcut,
you can navigate to the application directory and
double click the application executable file named
utterlyvoice
(or utterlyvoice.exe
if your Windows settings show file extensions).
The application should open a window anchored at the top of your screen. If you have not provided a license key yet, the setup window also opens automatically. See the Setup page for details.
We recommend keeping the window anchored at the top of your screen,
because it is very helpful to monitor modes and recognized text
at all times.
However, you can update the userInterfaceHeight
setting in the
general settings file
if you would like to make it a normal, resizable window.
If you experience any issues, see Troubleshooting.
If you want to uninstall the application, just delete the application directory and any shortcuts you may have to the application. Utterly Voice is a portable application, so this deletes all data and settings created by the application.
