This page describes how to install Utterly Voice.
If you have already installed Utterly Voice, and you're upgrading to a new version, see Version Upgrade.
Go to the Download page and download the application zip file.
You need to decide where you want to install the application and to create a directory there. Utterly Voice is a portable application that doesn't make any changes to your system settings. All of the settings and data required by the application are included in the application's directory. You can install the application in any location where you have file write permissions. If you are unsure of where to install, here are a few suggestions:
C:\Users\<YOUR_USER_NAME>\AppData\Local\Programs\utterlyvoice\
.
This Programs
directory is frequently used
to install portable applications,
and each user of the computer can have their own settings.
C:\utterlyvoice\
.
utterlyvoice
directory on a USB drive.
All configurations can be saved in this USB drive directory
and you can execute the application from there.
Note that the C:\Program Files\
directory used by many applications
does not provide file write permissions unless you are running as the administrator
or you change the default file permissions for this directory.
Move the file you downloaded to the directory you created above, then unzip the file in that directory.
Open the unzipped directory and
double click the application executable file named
utterlyvoice
(or utterlyvoice.exe
if your Windows settings show file extensions).
If Windows S mode prevents you from running the application, switch out of Windows S mode. When S mode is active, applications that are not available in the Microsoft Store (like Google Chrome and Utterly Voice) are not allowed to run.
The first time you run the application, Windows may show a warning about running an unknown application. This happens because the application is not published yet. Select the options that let you run the application. For example, on Windows 10 and 11, click more info then run anyway.
The application should open a window anchored at the top of your screen. If you have not provided a license key yet, the setup window also opens automatically. See the Setup page for details.
We recommend keeping the window anchored at the top of your screen,
because it is very helpful to monitor modes and recognized text
at all times.
However, you can update the userInterfaceHeight
setting in the
general settings file
if you would like to make it a normal, resizable window.
If you experience any issues, see Troubleshooting.
If you want to uninstall the application, just delete the application directory. This deletes all data and settings created by the application.
